Tuner
Turn the microphone on and play a held note. The needle tells you whether you are flat, in tune or sharp.
Play a held note, close to the microphone.
A4 in hertz. 440 is the standard; 432 and 442 are also used.
The audio is analysed on your device: nothing is uploaded or stored.
How to tune with your microphone
- 01
Turn the device on
The red button is the microphone. The browser asks for permission once; if you deny it, the screen says so instead of showing a made-up note. Whatever comes in through the microphone is measured on your device and never sent to a server.
- 02
Pick instrument and tuning
Both knobs turn with the mouse, your finger or the arrow keys. The left one chooses between 13 instruments —guitar, bass, ukulele, mandolin, banjo, violin, viola, cello, double bass, tiple, Andean bandola, charango and cuatro—; the right one, between their 24 tunings, from standard to Drop D or the open tunings. On the chromatic position it tunes any note, whatever the instrument.
- 03
Play a held note
Close to the microphone and without vibrato. The screen shows which string you are playing, the nearest note, the cents you are off and the frequency. The needle sits in the middle when the string is in tune: flat means tighten, sharp means loosen. The calibration setting moves A4 from 415 to 466 Hz, with shortcuts at 432, 435, 440, 442 and 444.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need an account or an install?
- No. Open it in the browser and tune: no account, no email, no app to download. There is no usage limit either.
- Does it work for any instrument?
- On chromatic it tunes any note. Per instrument it brings 13 with their strings and ranges already loaded, so the screen tells you which string you are playing and how far off it is.
- Is my audio recorded or uploaded?
- No. The microphone is analysed in memory on your device: nothing is recorded, uploaded or left behind when you close the tab. Turning the device off clears even the last reading.
- Does it work offline?
- Once the page is loaded, yes: your device does the maths. The connection is only needed to open the page or to come back to it after closing the tab.
